Woza Moya are one of Oxfam Shop’s newest producer partners and the suppliers of our beautifully hand-crafted sock monkeys. Woza Moya are a non-governmental organisation providing care and support for people living with HIV in the Ufafa Valley, South Africa.

This beautiful and inspirational video looks at the difference Woza Moya’s sock monkey’s have made to the lives of their crafters such as Sindi Mtolo and Mpume Dlamini.

Sindi and Mpume tell how the income from the sock monkeys has allowed them to provide enough food and shelter for their children.

The Sock Monkey project was originally developed in Canada to help bring joy and laughter to children affected by trauma all around the world. Due to the sock monkeys ever-growing popularity and increasing demand, the project is now also helping Woza Moya’s artisans in South Africa create a sustainable future with an ongoing source of income.

In addition to export activities, a portion of Woza Moya’s proceeds go towards supplementing the income of other artisans in the Ufafa Valley, and the group also supplies sock monkeys to the "Clowns Without Borders South Africa" program which works with local children affected by trauma.
